The marionette theater in the Esterházy Castle in Fertőd is today - just like in Haydn's time - the scene of special performances, theater and musical events.
The marionette theater was opened in 1773 on the occasion of the visit of Maria Theresa, but since then it has changed functions several times. The building underwent a complete renovation, which was finished in May 2013. Today, just like in Haydn's time, it operates as a popular venue for special performances, children's theater and musical events, concerts, and conferences. The theater's reception room opens into the Esterházy café, which also functions as a theater buffet.
