Castle and Family history

Széchenyi castle

The Széchényi family from Alsószéchényke in Nógrád County served their country for generations. The Széchényifamily earned merit as politicians, statesmen, high priests and soldiers, and were awarded the title of count in recognition of their achievements. The family fortune was established in 1697 by Archbishop György Széchényi, Primate of Hungary. The fortune was inherited by his brother Lőrinc and later by his descendants. From then on, the name of Nagycenk became closely associated with the Széchényi family.
