The lime tree alley was planted by Széchényi Antal and his wife, Barkóczy Zsuzsanna, in 1753, and it included hermitages and hermit chapels, according to the fashion of the time.
The allée verte planted here carries unique value: it not only connects the family estate's garden with the natural world like a bridge but also acts as a gateway opening up the space leading to the untamed landscape. The alley, once consisting of more than six hundred lime trees, roughly twenty meters wide and two and a half kilometers long, is now part of the Fertő Landscape World Heritage Site and one of Hungary's first nature conservation areas.
At the end of the lime tree alley, in the grove, stands the tombstone of Széchényi Béla and his wife, Erdődy Hanna.
